Croyde Bay

Croyde’s golden sands and world-class waves attract surfers, families, and visitors of all abilities. It’s also holds the accolade of being the UK’s first Adapative Surfing Hub. With a fully loaded Changing Places facility and beach wheelchairs available, everyone can enjoy this stunning North Devon gem.

Parking

There are a generous amount of parking spaces available in Burrows car park opposite John Fowler Ruda Holiday Resort but there are no defined disabled parking spaces.

The carpark surface is mainly tarmac and partially grass which is firm enough for a wheelchair to navigate.

Wheelchairs

Access For All have four beach wheelchairs which can be hired free of charge from the surf shop or John Fowler Ruda Holiday Resort reception. A voluntary donation is suggested. See the Access For All flag for beach wheelchair location.

A vacuum backrest is available to borrow for the Hippocampe beach wheelchair for those who need a little bit of extra trunk support.

Two Banana Boards are also available to borrow.

An Airtushi inflatable seat insert for babies and toddlers, that fits in the Hippocampe beach wheelchair is available to borrow. Giving support to smaller children. Safety guidelines on the packaging should be followed.

Beach access

The slipway onto the beach is easily accessible from The Burrows carpark, exit from the far side by the large bins with a beach wheelchair. The slipway goes straight onto soft sand so can be hard work pushing beach wheelchairs until you hit the firmer sand, so the Hippocampe with both push and pull handle options can be useful here.

Depending on the weather and the time of year some of the sand can be washed away and there can be quite a drop from one side of the slipway onto the beach (see picture) so do take care if this is the case.

Toilets/Changing Places

There is an average size disabled toilet in the block on the slipway. It has a Radar key lock. Unfortunately this toilet does not have a toilet seat so is not suitable for the majority of users. These toilets are council run.

There is a Changing Places facility in Burrows Carpark which was installed by Access For All and Ruda Holiday Resort. This facility has a toilet with handrails, high/low sink, changing table, shower and hoist.
