Andy Hawker

Adaptive Surf & Accessibility Specialist

Andy is a volunteer surf lifeguard, ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor, ISA Adaptive Surf Instructor and ad hoc Surfing England Assistant Coach, now in his sixth year with The Wave Project. An Armed Forces veteran, he is passionate about using his skills and experience to make the ocean as accessible as possible to all beach users.

Alongside maintaining equipment, Andy works closely with The Wave Project’s Adaptive Lead to develop and adapt equipment that helps surfers overcome barriers, build confidence and progress on their surfing journeys.

As a father of three, and through experiences gained during a number of operational tours, Andy has seen first-hand the powerful role blue spaces can play in supporting and restoring wellbeing. As one of his surf therapy students once put it, the sea really can be “one of the best doctors in the world.”
